Learning Spanish, or any language for that matter, can be accomplished easily with good memory. After all, having a big vocabulary in your brain is achieved through memorization. This is why it is important to have some memory techniques up your sleeve so that you can properly strategize how you are going to accomplish learning Spanish. With these tips and with dedication to becoming fluent, you should be able to grasp the Spanish language sooner than expected.
Aim to learn a certain amount of Spanish words a day
Think of this like when we were in grade school. Part of our homework would be to remember several English words to help us expand our vocabulary. Well, you can use that same technique to learn Spanish so that you can have a bigger vocabulary. The more Spanish words you know, the easier it will be to understand what Spanish speakers are saying. At the very least, you will get the gist of the conversation. Everyone learns at a different pace so it is up to you to decide how many words you can handle a day. But make sure not to take more then you can handle. Not only should you remember how to say the word with the correct syllables, you must also know it means.
Use those newly learnt Spanish words in sentences
Take your learning up a notch by not only learning the meaning of Spanish words, but also using them in sentences. It may be scare to attempt to speak a completely different language from what you are used to, but the only way to learn is to have the courage to speak. No one expects you to be fluent right away. Sure, you will make mistakes, but accept that there is nothing wrong with that. When you get the chance to be around Spanish speakers, make use of the words you have been learning. This way, they are sure to stick in your mind.
Repeat the words until they are embedded in your mind
Learning new words takes time, but if you repeat them constantly and use them as often as you can, then you will certainly be able to implant those words in your long-term memory. Once you feel confident that you are familiar with certain words, avoid using them for a week or two. Once some time has passed, try to see if you still remember those words and how to use them. That is the true test to know if you have accomplished learning those words and making them a part of your long-term memory.
Don’t be an overachiever – start with the basics first
Sure, we all would want to learn Spanish overnight, but let’s be realistic here, it is just not possible – unless of course you have a photographic memory! Be patient and take things slow because by learning Spanish the right way, you will be fluent before you know it. So try not to be an over achiever by learning all the difficult Spanish words first. Stick to the basics and go with memorizing easy vocabulary. Once you have the basics down, then you can certainly move on to more challenging words.
Memorization is important for learning any language, so it is good to have some techniques in how you can effectively keep your new learnings in mind. Remember, everyone has a different learning pace. Discover yours and determine the most effective learning techniques for you.
