The new year is approaching again and if you are like a lot of people, your new year’s resolution is probably to learn a new language, like Spanish. The thing with new year’s resolutions is that many of us often just say it but not actually do what we say. So instead of bragging to everyone about your resolution to learn Spanish, why not actually take action and learn the language? Since the end of the year is coming to a close, it is probably a good idea to prepare yourself for your goal of learning Spanish in the new year. Here are some excuses that you probably hear too often from yourself – and why you should throw these excuses out the window.
No time to learn – nowadays, this really isn’t an excuse. Even with just a few minutes a day, you can pick up a couple of Spanish words, especially with all the technology available. You can be on a train, on a bus, on a plane, or waiting somewhere and have access to Spanish learning apps through your smart phone or tablet. Of course, you can’t expect to be fluent overnight, but at least you are on your way to your goal of learning the language.
I’m not a quick learner – don’t cancel out the learning experience even before you’ve started learning. If you are truly interested in learning Spanish, then you should be able to pick up what you learn. Start from the basics and even use children’s learning tools to help you out. If a child can learn it, so can you.
I don’t have money – typically, you can enroll yourself into a Spanish language course and spend money. But really, this is not necessary. There are tons of free Spanish learning material online that you can use to your advantage. From free courses to free games to free apps. You could be broke and learn Spanish if you make use of these tools. The key is to be resourceful.
I’m too shy – part of learning is making mistakes. If you are scared to talk to your peers in the language, don’t be. No one is going to laugh at you if you make wrong pronunciations. If anything, they will be proud of you and helpful to ensure that you will be able to accomplish your goal of learning. So no need to be shy, just get started in learning and worry about speaking it later on.
When you think about it, all you really need is to get started. Once you have gathered the materials you need, set aside a few minutes each day, and get yourself psyched to learn Spanish, then you will be on your way to accomplishing your new year’s resolution. Just think, the following year, you will be able to converse in the language!
